Tips for Planning a Wedding in Sardinia
Getting married in Sardinia is a beautiful choice: crystal-clear waters, wind-shaped rocks, quiet countryside, and golden sunsets. This island offers extraordinary scenery, both for those who were born here and for couples who choose it as their destination wedding location. But planning a wedding in Sardinia is not always simple, especially when you dream of something unconventional and truly personal.
Here are a few practical tips I always share with my couples — whether they are Sardinian or planning a destination wedding from abroad.
Choose the Area Carefully
Sardinia is not as “small” as it may seem. The north and south differ in distances, suppliers, transport connections, and even seasonality. If your guests are travelling from abroad or from other regions, it is important to carefully consider:
- Proximity to the airport;
- Nearby accommodation options;
- Ease of transportation and travel logistics.
Here, logistics truly make a difference!
Be Mindful with Non-Traditional Weddings
A wedding on the beach, in the countryside, among vineyards, or in a private estate can be absolutely magical — but it requires careful planning.
In Sardinia, there are regulations to respect, permits to request, local authorisations to obtain, and sound restrictions after certain hours. An unconventional wedding is entirely possible, but it needs to be approached with awareness and expertise.
Take the Weather Seriously
Wind is never just a detail here. The Mistral wind can transform an entire setup within minutes. Summer heat can be intense, and even May or September may bring unexpected weather changes. Having a solid Plan B is essential — always.
Work with Suppliers Who Know the Island
Always choose professionals who truly understand the territory:
a photographer who knows Sardinia’s unique light, a florist who understands which flowers withstand the wind, and a catering team experienced in managing seaside venues and complex logistics.
When planning from abroad, this becomes even more important. If you live overseas or outside the region, having someone locally coordinating every detail is invaluable.
Never Underestimate Travel Times
Many of Sardinia’s most beautiful venues are located in more remote areas. Always consider:
- Guest transfers;
- Parking availability;
- Shuttle services;
- Real travel times.
Distances on the map do not always reflect the reality of Sardinian roads.
Create an Experience, Not Just an Event
If you choose to get married in Sardinia, remember that for many of your guests this will be a journey, not simply an invitation.
Offer them curated experiences to enjoy during their stay, or provide a thoughtfully designed guide or map including the wedding venue, the easiest routes, parking areas or shuttle points, and recommended hotels. Pay attention to the distance between the ceremony location and the reception venue, and highlight the main landmarks along the way.
It can be digital or printed, coordinated with the wedding stationery and overall aesthetic. It is a simple gesture, yet it makes guests feel welcomed, guided, and cared for.
Embrace Tradition… with Personality
Sardinia has a deeply rooted and powerful culture: food, music, craftsmanship, and ancient traditions. You may choose to include traditional elements such as myrtle, local pastries, Sardinian textiles, or artisanal details — while reinterpreting them in a more contemporary way. This is the balance I love most: roots and freedom existing together.
Planning a wedding in Sardinia can be simple, or wonderfully complex — it all depends on how far you wish to go with your vision. I love working with couples who dream of something personal, slightly unconventional, yet always elegant and intentionally designed.
Because this island is powerful, and a wedding here can truly become unforgettable.
